Review: ‘The Dharma of Star Wars’ by Matthew Bortolin

A couple of months ago I got an email from Wisdom Publications offering to send me a copy of this book. I wasn’t going to say no to a free book, was I?

This is the second edition of the movie tie-in book about Buddhism by this author. Originally published in 2005, this new edition has been updated and will be released in time for Episode VII:The Force Awakens.

I’ve enjoyed reading this ARC, even with the obligatory typographic errors of a proof copy. The writing style is humorous but sincere, and the author uses his knowledge of Star Wars well in his efforts to explain Buddhism. There is an obvious passion (both for Star Wars and Buddhism) in the writing, and Bortolin really does illustrate his ideas effectively without it feeling forced.
