I’ve been working a lot lately (yay money! Boo exhaustion!) and today is my first proper day off for two weeks. I am also sick again (physically rather than mentally this time round), so sick I had to leave work halfway in to my shift yesterday because of nausea. Bit of a problem that, when you work in a food factory.
I’m completely worn out, not surprisingly. I’ve barely done any writing for two weeks, or anything creative for that matter. If I was sensible I’d have spent the day taking it easy, maybe reading and napping.
That was the plan.
But then I got invited to the cinema to see The Lego Movie, by my best friend’s six year old. Well, I couldn’t disappoint him could I?
I am undeniably not a sensible person.
Thus, instead of resting today, I caught the 10:00 am bus to Grimsby. It turned up late as per usual. But I suppose that’s better than it not turning up at all. We should have left earlier. After a jaunt round the shopping centre, a rest at the coffee shop, and a trip to the wool shop (I have new wool in two shades of blue; my crochet hooks should be here tomorrow so I can finally continue with my blanket project) we got to the cinema at half twelve. The film was due to start at 1pm.
Plenty of time?
Hahaha I wish.
It was packed. And then they sold out of tickets for the film.
Quick change of plan. Food then The Magical Castle. They’ve had a bit of a refurbishment in the last year.
The dragons eyes glow red, it blows out smoke. And there’s free, if patchy, WiFi. They know how to keep the adults entertained.
It was brilliant; I finally had time to get some writing done. I’m attempting to write a sci fi short story. I’d hit a bit of a block, but it seems to have moved at last. I’d almost given up trying to finish the story, even though I knew how I want it to play out I couldn’t get a grip on it.
Strange the things that will shift writer’s block. Entertaining a small child, rest, good company, new stimuli, a complete change of scene? I don’t know which but whatever it was it’s kicked my creativity back in to gear. This evening, to relax after the bus journey home, I started sewing.
Originally, it was going to be a banner, but the next bit wouldn’t fit on to one piece of aida, so I think I’m going to make a set of cushions.
The embroidery for the second cushion isn’t finished yet. My hands were hurting after three and a half hours stitching. I’ll probably finished it tomorrow. Then I need to hem them, make the cushion cases, sew the embroidered sections on, and finally stuff them.
This may take some time. There will probably be much swearing and blood.
So, it’s bye bye (for now) to my lack of creative drive; I might be feeling a bit rough but I’ve got my inspiration back. New stimuli, going somewhere different to write, has helped me with writer’s block. Anyone got other suggestions?
Have a good week.
EDIT: I finished my little embroidery project. I’ve decided to mount them on canvases, and ordered myself some materials to make the cushions properly. I’ll probably change the design slightly as well.
